Digital 3-Dimensional Ultrasound There are several advantages to digital ultrasound, but from a horse owners perspective the most important is more consistently detailed images, which means more sensitive disgnoses and more precise information. The digital images are permanently stored on CDs and can be sent to other locations electronically.
The 3 dimensional capability is very helpful for fully characterizing the size of the injury to tendon tissue. With 3D ultrasound the soft tissue image of an injured tendon can be positioned on the monitor within a schematic cube. Then with the 3D software we can peel away layers of anatomy in order to see the core lesion from 3 aspects. The image appears similar to an ultrasonic tomogram of tissue. This 3D information describes the injury more accurately and will help us monitor the healing process better.
Digital Radiography Digital radiography (DR) provides diagnostic and communication advantages over film radiography. With DR we can manipulate the contrast and brightness to improve the spatial and contrast resolution - all leading to more precise diagnoses. DR will allow us to send copies home with you, email copies directly to you, or send copies with you on CD. DR also improves storage and retrieval and communication with other veterinary specialists.
The DR system will arrive during the month of October. Hopefully your horse will not be lame and will not need radiography, but we think that you will be very pleased with the character of the images and the improvement in diagnostic specificity if your horse needs radiographic diagnosis.
Telephone System We've recently updated our phone system so that clients can reliably reach us during and after office hours.
Webcam We've added another webcam that enables us to monitor 2 stalls from our home computers
