What is sidebone?
Sidebone occurs in the collateral cartilage when the tissue becomes bony. The transition to bony tissue is a normal process of aging. When it occurs prematurely in response to injury, it reduces the elasticity of the foot and may cause lameness problems.
Often it is unclear when the conversion to bone is pathological or incidental. Occasionally, the side bone tissue may fracture and cause lameness.
